This sign (or its replicas) has been in 36 shows on this tour alone. Bruce has picked it twice (and we always have a backup) and then did not play the song. Last time he took the sign, he said: “Now this sign I’ve seen in 300 shows from the same people” and we were still waiting for him to play it! and finally in Kilkenny he said YOU! I owe you a song! and he played it! this was a moment I never thought would happen. Still don’t remember it all, but thanks to you guys I can now relive again and again.
This is St.Paul 2012, it was Veteran’s Day in the US, so I hoped and prayed I’d have a chance with my “cheesy” sign (couldn’t resist…I live in Wisconsin, the land of cheese), and I AM a vet. I retired from the United States Air Force in 2007 after 20 years of active duty. Don’t blame me entirely for how corny the sign is. My hubby and kids had A LOT of input!
I think everyone in this group can imagine how many things have to go EXACTLY RIGHT to get a sign into Bruce’s hands!
I showed my sign at the beginning of DITD. It looked like he nodded (but how can you tell?)! So I took the sign down…didn’t want to be too annoying by keeping it up for any length of time. The fans who let me move up had already done me the greatest favor by moving aside for me when they read my sign.
I was absolutely CRUSHED when he pulled a girl up onstage, AND IT WASN’T ME! BAAAH! I was so happy for her, but sad for me.
You could have knocked me over with a feather when he headed my way and growled, “GIMME YOUR SIGN”! (The other girl was from Italy, and her sign requested a dance with STEVE, not Bruce!).
I couldn’t think. My heart was pounding! I seriously could not take a breath!
The guy next to me gave me a boost and there I was—on stage in front of 17,000 people, and I CANT DANCE! Talk about sheer panic!
Random thoughts flickered at the edges of my brain…
“I’m an idiot…I CAN’T DANCE…what have I done?”
“Bruce has his hand out…take it!”
Bruce pulled me close…and the rest is history!!!
I DANCED WITH BRUCE…and there’s proof!!!
